Shortened
Bike Ed. Program for 2008
The
“shortened version” of our Bike Ed. Program for Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will
begin on Monday, 19th
May 2008
By that day your child will need to have at school, their bike and
approved helmet, both in serviceable
condition. We cannot do bike
repairs so please ensure that bikes are ready for action for Session 1!
“Out of towners” will be able to leave their bikes locked at school
for the duration of the program.
Children without their bike and helmet at this time will be unable to take
part in the program and we will make arrangements for them to do Road
Awareness activities instead.
Our program consists of work activities conducted in the classroom,
cycling activities done in the playground and on footways, and on-road
riding sessions. All sessions
are of course, conducted under supervision.

BIKE
EDUCATION
During
the first half of the school year, Grade 3, 4, 5 & 6
students undertake a Bike Education Course, both within school grounds and
out on the road. The course teaches riding skills and gives the children
an appreciation of road awareness. At the end of the course, each child
undergoes an on-road test. On successful completion of this practical test
students are awarded a certificate. Bike Ed. is an important part of
the Toora Primary School curriculum.
Bike
Ed Challenge Competition has been implemented by
VicRoads into Primary Schools to raise the profile of bicycle
education.
Toora Primary School joins the Challenge each year with other schools in
the district in Leongatha.
